What is a Platen Superheater? Structure, Advantages, and Industrial Applications

1. Overview of Platen Superheater

A Platen Superheater is a type of radiant superheater that is vertically arranged at the upper furnace outlet. Named for its "screen-like" structure, it directly absorbs radiant heat from high-temperature flue gases to further heat steam into a superheated state, significantly boosting boiler efficiency.

2. Structure and Working Principle

The platen superheater typically consists of upper and lower headers, bent connecting tubes, and vertically aligned tube bundles. Steam flows inside the tubes while the outer surfaces absorb radiant energy from the furnace. Since it is located in the high-temperature zone, it operates primarily by radiant heat transfer, which is far more efficient than convective heating alone.

3. Materials and Manufacturing Process

To withstand high-temperature and high-pressure environments, platen superheaters are usually made from high-temperature alloy steel, such as SA213-T91, T22, and others.
