Fully Welded Plate Heat Exchanger & Brazed Plate Heat Exchanger

1. Manufacturing Process

  • Fully Welded Plate Heat Exchanger
Manufactured by TIG or laser welding, the plates are sealed through welding joints without using gaskets or filler materials. The welded seams provide both strength and tightness, making it suitable for high temperature and high pressure conditions.

  • Brazed Plate Heat Exchanger
Assembled with copper or nickel brazing material, then heated in a vacuum furnace where the filler metal melts and bonds the plates together. It is lightweight and compact, but its performance is limited by the brazing material.

2. Performance Comparison

FeatureFully Welded Plate Heat ExchangerBrazed Plate Heat Exchanger
Temperature RangeUp to 400℃ or higherTypically ≤225℃ (copper brazed), slightly higher with nickel brazing
Pressure Range4.0–6.0 MPa or aboveGenerally ≤3.0 MPa
Corrosion ResistanceAvailable in stainless steel, titanium, nickel alloys; ideal for aggressive media such as acids, alkalis, ammonia, and chloridesLimited by filler metal: copper is not ammonia-resistant, nickel is better but more expensive
MaintenanceCan be modular and partially disassembled, otherwise chemical cleaning is requiredNon-serviceable; once blocked or fouled, replacement is necessary
Size & WeightCompact but larger than brazed typeExtremely compact and lightweight
Cost LevelMedium to highLow
Typical ApplicationsPetrochemical, metallurgy, power generation, waste heat recovery, chemical processingRefrigeration, heat pumps, HVAC, domestic hot water systems

3. Applications

  • Fully Welded Plate Heat Exchanger
Designed for industrial heavy-duty operations, it is widely used in oil refining, chemical plants, metallurgy, power generation, and flue gas waste heat recovery. Its strength lies in handling high temperature, high pressure, and corrosive fluids.

  • Brazed Plate Heat Exchanger
Mostly applied in HVAC systems, refrigeration, heat pumps, and hot water supply. It offers cost efficiency, small footprint, and easy installation, making it ideal for commercial and residential applications.

4. Conclusion

In short:

  • The Fully Welded Plate Heat Exchanger is the industrial heavy-duty solution, built for demanding environments that require durability, reliability, and resistance to extreme conditions.

  • The Brazed Plate Heat Exchanger is the compact and economical choice, perfect for HVAC and small-scale thermal systems.

By carefully evaluating your operating conditions and budget, you can select the most suitable heat exchanger for long-term efficiency and reliability.
